Where is Bora Bora in the Society Islands?

The island of Bora Bora lies among the Society Islands. They are divided into two groups. The eastern group of islands are the Windward Islands. It is popular for it’s sweet pineapples.

The western cluster of islands are referred to as the Leeward Islands. Here you will find Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa and Maupiti islands. The Island is like a majestic jewel among these Leeward Islands. It is definitely one of the scenic wonders of the world.

This little isle is only 11 square miles. But it is filled with lush vegetation. Towering above are two souring silhouettes of two extinct volcanoes. The Lagoonarium

Located on a private islet, Bora Bora Lagoonarium is a family owned water park. It has an aquarium that houses a wide array of sea creatures only found in French Polynesia. Some of these marine animals include turtles, rays, and sharks. Plus there are lots of colorful fishes of different sizes. These animals are fed on a regular basis and are used to be around humans.

What makes the Lagoonarium different from other Lagoonariums in the island? It is that visitors can swim together with the marine animals. While it is already fun to just do sightseeing, it becomes way more exciting and adventurous coming up close and personal with these animals.

Most tours on the island will include the Lagoonarium in their itinerary. Guests will be provided with snorkeling gears so they can begin interacting with the sea animals.

If you want to make the most out of your visit at the Lagoonarium, you can opt to book for a full day tour.

That gives you more time to swim and snorkel in the lagoon. Aside from that, an island tour through an outrigger canoe is quite exciting. You could also have a barbecue picnic on an islet. and a visit to the Bora Bora Coral Gardens. All of which are included in the tour package.

Once you have decided to include the Lagoonarium in your itinerary, you must book at the reservation office. Do that as early as possible to ensure availability of the tour company. Hotel pickup and drop off together with the rent of the snorkeling equipment are usually inclusive in the tour packages.

Highlight Activities

Even if you do not have any experience in scuba diving, you will still have the opportunity to interact with the animals. There are plenty of professional and well-trained guides in the area. Some will go with you and teach you how to socialize with the animals in the best and safest way.

Shark and ray feeding exhibition is one activity that the guides will show the guests. The guides are already very knowledgeable about the behavior of the animals. They will show guests how they do their day by day feeding.

This particular activity requires specific knowledge and high expertise and is a very rare event. So you must include it in your itinerary and not miss it.

More Activities to Enjoy in Bora Bora

Probably the biggest attraction on the island is Mt Otemanu. Is an ancient volcano and can be seen from many places around the island. Should you stay on a motu resort, you have views over the lagoon to Mt Otemanu, however not from the Hilton Bora Bora.

This ancient volcano, Mt Otemanu is a sight to behold from every angle. To be able to see the little island from every angle take a Bora Bora lagoon tour. It should take you on a circle around the lagoon for a nice view from all angles. There are several kinds of lagoon tours. Be sure to pick the ones that serve you best.

Hiking on Bora Bora is another activity you may like. You go through lush tropical valleys and mountainside. You’ll experience breathtaking views of the lagoon. The Valley of the kings hike takes you along old pathways. There you will explore remnants of ancient villages and maraes. For those itching for more adventure, you can climb Mt. Otemanu or Mt. Do snorkeling and the beach hold your interest?

Like the underwater sea life? The best way to see it is to take a snorkeling tour. Be sure to choose your resort to make sure there is snorkeling available. Either from the beach or even from your over water bungalow. The “lagoonarium” is a favorite spot for many.

If you really want to be independent then hire a little boat for the day. No license is necessary. Then you can cruise around to find the best snorkeling spots yourself.

Matira Beach is the island’s famous public beach. It has been voted best beach in the world! It has a laid back atmosphere with pure white sand and calm turquoise water. You should be able to enjoy pure relaxation. Although it is the island’s main public beach, it probably won’t be crowded like many famous public beaches around the world.

Matira beach has a few cafes around it that offer affordable eating. Being such a prime vacation spot its nice to know you don’t have to go all out moneywise just to have a nice meal. Should you decide to go snorkeling it is available from Matira beach.
