Cut Costs When Traveling in Europe

If you live in another part of the world then traveling to Europe may be a dream vacation destination for you. There are so many historical and cultural attractions to explore. That’s aside from any of the various culinary delights you can experience. Here are a few tips to Cut Costs When Traveling in Europe.

All the things you can see and do can easily make eager visitors wreck any budget they have. It is easy to throw your travel expenses way out of kilter.

A lavish dinner here and there, a pricey tour or two and several fine souvenirs may seem harmless but small costs easily pile up and before you know it, you have spent more than what you can afford or budgeted for.

Your enjoyment and fun of travel will last longer and serve you better when you don’t have to face huge credit card bills. That’s the last thing you want to see when you arrive home. So common sense is in order while spending on your vacation.

It pays to cut costs where possible while in Europe. It won’t necessarily hamper your enjoyment and excitement of your trip. You may even be proud of yourself for having such self-control.

Cost-cutting Tips to Help you Enjoy Europe

Here are a few cost-cutting tips to help you have a great time in Europe and save money too.

1. When souvenir shopping stick to just one exceptional item. Shopping for souvenirs is one of the biggest money drains when traveling in Europe. When buying mementos of your marvelous trip it is a good idea if you stick to just one exceptional item. Don’t mix it with dozens of trinkets and other random items. Most of those you don’t really have any use for when you get home.

2. Consider excess baggage fees when buying souvenirs or other items. It’s easy to feel buying various kinds of nick-nacks in Germany, hand painted coaster sets in Portugal and designer blouses in Paris may seem like a good idea. However, you may change your mind and regret buying the extra souvenirs or items you really don’t need.

That’s likely to occur when you get billed for excess baggage weight at the airport. Sometimes those unnecessary items you may have splurged on are worth way less than the extra baggage fees.

3. Tourist cards may not always be a good idea. Yes, they are perfect if you are planning to visit most of the attractions that require admission fees. However, if you really don’t have time for a walking tour of these attractions the passes may not be worthwhile.

That’s especially the case when you are more than happy to check them out from the outside. In such cases, a tourist card will only turn out to be an extra added cost. Another thing to consider are free admission schedules. These are usually offered within a limited time period on a particular day of the week. Check with the local tourist information office for details on this and any other possible money saving tips.

4. Check for free open-air events. Besides museums and palaces, Europe is also famous for its theaters and their outstanding cultural performances. But note that admission to such events can be very expensive. If the cost is not within your budget, check the local events schedule. Possibly you can score a free open-air concert while in the area. Such events are usually hosted in lovely parks in major European cities during peak season.

5. Take a free sightseeing tour. Rather than shelling out money for everything you want to see, consider walking around the area. Italian BandIf you have plenty of time to spare while visiting a particular area why not go for a walk? Most of Europe’s major destinations are compact. They are usually pedestrian friendly, so you won’t feel like a stranger walking.

So just grab a map and explore the historic city center on your own. Doing it this way, you’ll be in command of your own itinerary. You can take your sweet time. Examine the attractions you find most interesting. By being on your own you will have a better chance of discovering something special. Something off the beaten track. The best part of it is you will not have to pay anything for your do-it-yourself sightseeing tour.
