If you live in an area where there are no beaches or lakes for you to enjoy, Crete is a great place to go on vacation. Since it is a most popular vacation area you will almost surely see many others also wanting to soak up the sunshine and mild Mediterranean weather.
Crete is the largest island in Greece. It is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is located in the southern part of the Aegean Sea separating the Aegean from the Libyan Sea. All Greek islands have their own charm and beauty, but Crete is one of the most diverse of their islands.
The island is blessed with a remarkable amount of spectacular natural beauty and a wide variety of varied architecture. Some of that architecture pays tribute to its ancient Minoan past. It also includes its history of conquest from the Greek mainland, the Venetian era, and the Turkish/Ottoman period.
